Birdwood Business Energy was founded in 2019 by Scott McGregor and Graeme Ludlow. After building, leading and running some of Europe’s most successful renewable companies both new they could have a bigger impact in addressing climate change through rapidly scaling proven technology available in the market today.
Having worked with many distributed energy projects, commercial and industrial clients in Australia, it was clear that these businesses struggled with understanding distributed energy and many didn’t achieve the return on investment they were looking for. They may have been sold oversized projects, felt batteries were too expensive or found themselves curtailed by their energy provider. From this idea birdwood’s vision emerged - to bring together the world’s best experience to fast track the transition to 100% renewables while ensuring stronger returns for those who invest.
Price and retailer instability continues to drive large energy consumers to self generation verses the reliance on the grid. Within Australia, households and businesses have added nearly 8GW of new rooftop solar capacity in the past four years, in the process making Australia a world leader in the deployment of distributed energy resources (DER). Scott has been at the front line of energy storage globally for more than a decade. Pioneering the development of new business models for energy storage at grid-level and behind-the-meter.
Scott has founded and led technology, renewable, and investment companies over the past two decades enabling $1bn worth of energy projects across the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Graeme Ludlow
Combining science and finance, Graeme has advised bleeding edge projects for the last fifteen years across the world. Everyone from the World Bank through to the UK Cabinet have called upon Graeme’s expertise.
Prior to entering the world of energy storage, Graeme studied biochemistry and philosophy followed by a quick stint advising farmers on energy strategy. Since then he’s applied his mind to a range of projects to advance the distributed energy system.
